Narrative:

ZFW cleared us down to 7000 ft. 7000 ft was read back. Passing approximately 16500 ft, center issued another clearance of 40 mi north at 11000 ft from buj. This seemed conflicting with our 7000 ft clearance. We clarified the altitude assignment previously issued. Ft worth then reported the previous assignment to be 17000 ft. The mistake was caught passing 16200 ft. No deviations for traffic were needed.
