Narrative:

During taxi for takeoff at dsm, we were instructed to taxi to runway 13L via taxiway D. An air carrier X B727 was holding and blocking the entryway to runway 13L at D6. We were instructed to taxi onto runway 13L from taxiway D5 and backtrack into position and hold. In order to turn the aircraft around, power was applied to outboard engines. Subsequently taxiway signs were blown apart. We were told this by the tower. We asked if everything was ok and the tower responded, yes. We took off. Action that should have taken place: the air carrier X B727 should have been instructed to move so no backtracking or turning would have been needed.
