Narrative:

While en route from ksm to anc on V319 ATC advised I was squawking 8500 ft in a descent. Pilot's altimeter read 12000 ft. I was instructed to stop altitude squawk and reset transponder. As I was resetting the encoder I checked #2 altimeter which read approximately 8600 ft. An immediate climb was initiated back to 12000 ft and the flight was concluded. Both altimeters should be included in the scan.
