Narrative:

Clearance to cross pvd at 11000 ft at 250 KTS. Received and acknowledged. Descent checklist accomplished. First officer set altimeter to 30.72, actual altimeter setting 29.72. First officer's leg. During descent captain called 12000 ft for 11000 ft. At 11000 ft MSL, aircraft on autoplt, first officer descended through 11000 ft. Captain stopped descent at 10750 ft and directed first officer to level off at 11000 ft, several times. Captain noted altimeter setting discrepancy, first officer changed altimeter setting to correct altitude and leveled off at 11000 ft MSL. During descent checklist first officer incorrectly set altimeter to 30.72 vice 29.72. Captain read and observed '.72' crosschecked and overlooked '30.' that first officer had set in first officer's altimeter.
