Narrative:

While we were being vectored for an approach to dfw runway 18R, we reported field in sight at 10 NM and the approach controller turned us to 140 degree heading, cleared us for a visual approach to runway 18R, and switched us to runway 18R tower frequency. At time of the clearance, a rain shower was located west of course and was not a factor. However, as we continued the approach the rain shower began to become a factor and deviations were necessary to maintain VMC. Tower issued a 200 degree heading vector approximately 4.5 NM out, on final, with which we complied. Tower then issued go around instructions (200 degree heading at 3000 ft) and a go around was executed to an immediate visual approach and non eventful landing to runway 13R.

Title: AN ACR CAPT DESCRIBES A VISUAL APCH THAT REQUIRED EXCESSIVE MANEUVERING AS A RESULT OF WX AVOIDANCE. THE ATCT LCL CTLR VECTORED THE B727 CREW AND THEN ISSUED A GAR AND CLRNC FOR RWY 13R, WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE VECTOR WOULD NO LONGER ALLOW A NORMAL APCH TO LNDG ON RWY 18R.

Narrative: WHILE WE WERE BEING VECTORED FOR AN APCH TO DFW RWY 18R, WE RPTED FIELD IN SIGHT AT 10 NM AND THE APCH CTLR TURNED US TO 140 DEG HDG, CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 18R, AND SWITCHED US TO RWY 18R TWR FREQ. AT TIME OF THE CLRNC, A RAIN SHOWER WAS LOCATED W OF COURSE AND WAS NOT A FACTOR. HOWEVER, AS WE CONTINUED THE APCH THE RAIN SHOWER BEGAN TO BECOME A FACTOR AND DEVS WERE NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN VMC. TWR ISSUED A 200 DEG HDG VECTOR APPROX 4.5 NM OUT, ON FINAL, WITH WHICH WE COMPLIED. TWR THEN ISSUED GAR INSTRUCTIONS (200 DEG HDG AT 3000 FT) AND A GAR WAS EXECUTED TO AN IMMEDIATE VISUAL APCH AND NON EVENTFUL LNDG TO RWY 13R.
