While level at 17000 ft approximately 15 mi wnw of williamsport, PA, VOR we encountered a near miss at our altitude less than 500 ft away. No evasive action was taken. A formal report was filed with the ZNY in islip, ny.

Narrative: WHILE LEVEL AT 17000 FT APPROX 15 MI WNW OF WILLIAMSPORT, PA, VOR WE ENCOUNTERED A NEAR MISS AT OUR ALT LESS THAN 500 FT AWAY. NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN. A FORMAL RPT WAS FILED WITH THE ZNY IN ISLIP, NY.
