Narrative:

Departed dfw with open item in aircraft logbook. It was a cabin item called in by the inbound crew. Since the crew told us that maintenance had been called and was on the way, I made the mistake of putting my initials in the book before it was signed off. The writeup was that the floor strip between forward galley and flight crew cabin is coming loose. Maintenance never showed up and in the process of preparing the flight deck for departure, I forgot about the cabin writeup. In the future I will not initial the logbook without first verifying personally that the appropriate action actually was taken.
