Narrative:

First, I was working the radios and was cleared to 2100 ft MSL. Student while under the hood climbed to 2500 ft while I wasn't watching and working the radios. Approach questioned our altitude and we made an immediate descent to 2100 ft. Second, while being vectored for the VOR runway 23 at iso approach cleared us to 150 degree heading and 1800 ft. I missed the clearance while teaching the student what was happening on the approach. Student responded to approach with 'roger.' when I asked him what it was he responded with 1100 ft. At 1300 ft MSL approach questioned our altitude, after which I took controls and aggressively climbed to 1800 ft. I believe both sits may have been avoided if prior to the flight the student and I had gone over the approach, and emphasized the importance of reading back a clearance and maintaining altitude.

Narrative: FIRST, I WAS WORKING THE RADIOS AND WAS CLRED TO 2100 FT MSL. STUDENT WHILE UNDER THE HOOD CLBED TO 2500 FT WHILE I WASN'T WATCHING AND WORKING THE RADIOS. APCH QUESTIONED OUR ALT AND WE MADE AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT TO 2100 FT. SECOND, WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR THE VOR RWY 23 AT ISO APCH CLRED US TO 150 DEG HDG AND 1800 FT. I MISSED THE CLRNC WHILE TEACHING THE STUDENT WHAT WAS HAPPENING ON THE APCH. STUDENT RESPONDED TO APCH WITH 'ROGER.' WHEN I ASKED HIM WHAT IT WAS HE RESPONDED WITH 1100 FT. AT 1300 FT MSL APCH QUESTIONED OUR ALT, AFTER WHICH I TOOK CTLS AND AGGRESSIVELY CLBED TO 1800 FT. I BELIEVE BOTH SITS MAY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF PRIOR TO THE FLT THE STUDENT AND I HAD GONE OVER THE APCH, AND EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF READING BACK A CLRNC AND MAINTAINING ALT.
