Narrative:

Passenger boarded flight with metal container. A flight attendant asked him if it was a computer. Passenger replied no, it's a bomb, jokingly. Other passenger failed to see the humor. I removed the passenger and his bags. All FAA regulations followed. We proceeded with departure. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: after the passenger was deplaned, he was held at the gate and it was there that he stated that there was 'a bomb on the airplane.' the flight crew's first indication of any related problem came when they were on the runway and the tower instructed them to leave the runway and contact the company. The company and security stopped the aircraft at an off duty runway and had the passenger returned to the terminal by bus. The aircraft was searched with dogs and then the captain was required to make an announcement to all of the passenger that he was comfortable with taking the aircraft. This reporter (captain) adds that civil disobedience has found its way into the airplane and his union is strongly pursuing the matter further -- the passenger was intoxicated, but should be charged with air piracy, regardless of his intoxication.

Title: AN ACR CAPT REMOVED A PAX FROM A FLT PRIOR TO DEP. THE PAX HAD JOKINGLY MENTIONED A BOMB WHEN A FLT ATTENDANT HAD INQUIRED ABOUT A CARRYON METAL BOX, AND UPSET THE OTHER PAX. AFTER THE FLT DEPARTED THE GATE, THE PAX SAID THAT THERE WAS A BOMB ONBOARD THE ACFT. THE FLC WAS INFORMED BY THE ATCT LCL CTLR AND THE ACFT WAS STOPPED AND SEARCHED ON AN OFF DUTY RWY.

Narrative: PAX BOARDED FLT WITH METAL CONTAINER. A FLT ATTENDANT ASKED HIM IF IT WAS A COMPUTER. PAX REPLIED NO, IT'S A BOMB, JOKINGLY. OTHER PAX FAILED TO SEE THE HUMOR. I REMOVED THE PAX AND HIS BAGS. ALL FAA REGS FOLLOWED. WE PROCEEDED WITH DEP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AFTER THE PAX WAS DEPLANED, HE WAS HELD AT THE GATE AND IT WAS THERE THAT HE STATED THAT THERE WAS 'A BOMB ON THE AIRPLANE.' THE FLC'S FIRST INDICATION OF ANY RELATED PROB CAME WHEN THEY WERE ON THE RWY AND THE TWR INSTRUCTED THEM TO LEAVE THE RWY AND CONTACT THE COMPANY. THE COMPANY AND SECURITY STOPPED THE ACFT AT AN OFF DUTY RWY AND HAD THE PAX RETURNED TO THE TERMINAL BY BUS. THE ACFT WAS SEARCHED WITH DOGS AND THEN THE CAPT WAS REQUIRED TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL OF THE PAX THAT HE WAS COMFORTABLE WITH TAKING THE ACFT. THIS RPTR (CAPT) ADDS THAT CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE HAS FOUND ITS WAY INTO THE AIRPLANE AND HIS UNION IS STRONGLY PURSUING THE MATTER FURTHER -- THE PAX WAS INTOXICATED, BUT SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH AIR PIRACY, REGARDLESS OF HIS INTOXICATION.
