Narrative:

After takeoff from runway 27 at san, front nose gear doors would not retract. Aircraft returned to san. After landing inspection revealed front gear doors to be in the open position, with the safety cable broken (broken in-flight). On initial aircraft walk around I noticed front doors to be in the open position. I decided that after the cockpit check I would return to check, and close the doors. This check did not take place, consequently the aircraft taxied and did a takeoff with the doors in the open position. After returning the doors were closed. The safety cable entered as a discrepancy missing item and the aircraft departed 35 mins late to lax.
