Narrative:

ATC cleared us to descend to 24000 ft at our discretion. As we started our descent I had first officer ask ATC if there was a speed restr. ATC said no. Staying on top of clouds (24000 ft) till a need to descend would require a very good rate of descent (4500-5000 FPM) and, no speed restr (wind northwest above 100 KTS) ground speed 490 KTS. Then ATC cleared us to cross ollee at 11000 ft, still no speed restr. About 8 mi before ollee intersection ATC cleared us to 7000 ft. In doing so canceled our 11000 ft ollee crossing restr. I slowed down our rate of descent and was high at ollee above 11000 ft. I believe ATC meant us to cross ollee at 11000 ft then descend to 7000 ft but hadn't cleared us that way. I think I should have asked ATC about the clearance change (no crossing restr at ollee) and the need for us to slow down if it was a problem for them a second time.

Title: THE RPTR 'FELT' THAT THE CTLR MAY HAVE WANTED HIM TO CROSS A PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED FIX AT 11000 FT.

Narrative: ATC CLRED US TO DSND TO 24000 FT AT OUR DISCRETION. AS WE STARTED OUR DSCNT I HAD FO ASK ATC IF THERE WAS A SPD RESTR. ATC SAID NO. STAYING ON TOP OF CLOUDS (24000 FT) TILL A NEED TO DSND WOULD REQUIRE A VERY GOOD RATE OF DSCNT (4500-5000 FPM) AND, NO SPD RESTR (WIND NW ABOVE 100 KTS) GND SPD 490 KTS. THEN ATC CLRED US TO CROSS OLLEE AT 11000 FT, STILL NO SPD RESTR. ABOUT 8 MI BEFORE OLLEE INTXN ATC CLRED US TO 7000 FT. IN DOING SO CANCELED OUR 11000 FT OLLEE XING RESTR. I SLOWED DOWN OUR RATE OF DSCNT AND WAS HIGH AT OLLEE ABOVE 11000 FT. I BELIEVE ATC MEANT US TO CROSS OLLEE AT 11000 FT THEN DSND TO 7000 FT BUT HADN'T CLRED US THAT WAY. I THINK I SHOULD HAVE ASKED ATC ABOUT THE CLRNC CHANGE (NO XING RESTR AT OLLEE) AND THE NEED FOR US TO SLOW DOWN IF IT WAS A PROB FOR THEM A SECOND TIME.
