Narrative:

We noticed a strange odor in the aircraft and attempted to evaluate and isolate. The cabin as well as the cockpit had the odor, so we elected to return to albany, ny. The passenger expressed some discomfort so the oxygen system was utilized. As time progressed the odor became more intense, at this point we elected to declare an emergency. Crash fire rescue equipment services were requested and the landing was uneventful. Subsequent evacuate/evacuation was also uneventful and without injuries. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was flying a BE02 either B or C. The mechanics told him the yaw damper was so hot it was glowing. That is what caused the odor.
