Narrative:

Recently, a denro rdvsii was installed at the tower. Lately, the ground control position has had a high pitched squeal in the backgnd. This squeal is continuous and very distracting. During a period of moderate traffic and training in progress on the ground control position several xmissions were required to be repeated. In addition the trainee had to repeat some of the instructions to the instructor. This was mainly due to the fact that it was impossible to use a headset. Numerous times this problem has been addressed to supervisors, airway facilities, and the atm. No progress is being made. If this continues and the summer hits with more traffic, a runway incursion is not out of the question. A ucr and hotline call will follow. This is a major safety issue. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated that the problem was a roaming tone which traveled throughout the facility position after a new asde system was installed. Reporter stated that the problem has been corrected.

Title: SIT RPTED INVOLVING EQUIP PROB CAUSING A BACKGND SQUEAL AT THE GND CTL POS RESULTING IN CTLR DISTR AND REPEATED XMISSIONS.

Narrative: RECENTLY, A DENRO RDVSII WAS INSTALLED AT THE TWR. LATELY, THE GND CTL POS HAS HAD A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL IN THE BACKGND. THIS SQUEAL IS CONTINUOUS AND VERY DISTRACTING. DURING A PERIOD OF MODERATE TFC AND TRAINING IN PROGRESS ON THE GND CTL POS SEVERAL XMISSIONS WERE REQUIRED TO BE REPEATED. IN ADDITION THE TRAINEE HAD TO REPEAT SOME OF THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE INSTRUCTOR. THIS WAS MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO USE A HEADSET. NUMEROUS TIMES THIS PROB HAS BEEN ADDRESSED TO SUPVRS, AIRWAY FACILITIES, AND THE ATM. NO PROGRESS IS BEING MADE. IF THIS CONTINUES AND THE SUMMER HITS WITH MORE TFC, A RWY INCURSION IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. A UCR AND HOTLINE CALL WILL FOLLOW. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THAT THE PROB WAS A ROAMING TONE WHICH TRAVELED THROUGHOUT THE FACILITY POS AFTER A NEW ASDE SYS WAS INSTALLED. RPTR STATED THAT THE PROB HAS BEEN CORRECTED.
