Narrative:

When level at 3800 ft on approach to san runway 27 localizer intercept, GPWS sounded terrain about 4 times. We leveled off at about 4200 ft above our cleared altitude in order to comply with the GPWS. After that, made an uneventful landing. WX was VFR, but it being nighttime, we did not have a good look at the terrain.

Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC RESPONDED TO A GPWS TERRAIN WARNING WHILE ON VECTOR FOR LOC INTERCEPT. THE FLC CLBED APPROX 400 FT ABOVE THEIR LEVEL ALT IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE WARNING, AND THEN CONTINUED TO AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
