Narrative:

We were cleared to dfw via the blue ridge arrival. We held at conny intersection for approximately 20 mins and were cleared to resume the arrival to dfw. While being vectored to the approach for runway 17L we noted a line of severe thunderstorms approaching from the northwest. On visual approach to runway 17L, inside the marker, on tower frequency we received a LLWS alert from dfw tower. Winds rapidly increased and were in excess of limits for the S80 aircraft. We initiated a go around. Tower instructed us to climb to 3000 ft on a 150 degree heading. We were told to contact departure on 118.55. Passing 1000 ft AGL we encountered a severe windshear with an increase of 50 KTS in airspeed and an unsolicited climb of 3000 FPM. We were unable to stop the climb at 3000 ft. The copilot informed ATC we were unable to level at 3000 ft due to windshear and we were given a climb clearance to 6000 ft. This was a classic case of windshear in front of an approaching storm. We only encountered the updraft and increase in airspeed. Thanks to simulator training we were able to recognize and escape the danger. We were informed dfw had closed. Dal was not considered a viable alternate due to the rapid movement of the storms. We immediately requested vectors to aus. Several other aircraft were diverting to aus at the same time. We sent an ACARS message that we were diverting to aus and entered aus as the destination in the ACARS. We experienced higher than normal fuel burn en route to aus due to vectors combined with a lower cruise altitude for traffic, WX, and a headwind in excess of 70 KTS. Approximately 65 mi from aus with 4000 pounds of fuel remaining, we declared minimum fuel. We were given vectors direct to the OM for runway 13R. On final for runway 13R, the winds changed and exceeded our limits. We requested and received a circle-to-land runway 31L. Touchdown fuel was 2400 pounds.
