Narrative:

Tracking inbound on sli 319 degree radial (heading 139 degrees magnetic) noticed track to right of (west of) radial approximately 4-6 degrees and increasing -- found front seat passenger had bumped the HSI slave to off and realized 20 degrees of compass difference. Immediately changed course to fly east to remain clear of class B (lax) but possible incursion. Next time use DME to verify lateral clrncs. I had the DME on sli -- should have been monitoring the lax VOR DME. It should be noted that the vtu 075 degree radial (that defines some of the lax class B airspace) is charted but unusable (reference the AFD).
