Narrative:

Overflew duty day time by 45 mins due to patient complications at hospital a. Condition: medical flight for home base hospital. Duty day for night shift was 13 hours. We received a late call. Flight would have been completed in normal time within normal duty day. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the flight crew was preparing to depart hospital a to transport patient to home base hospital in a BH41. The patient experienced complications after boarding and was taken back into the hospital. This delay placed the flight crew well past their maximum duty day limitation of 14 hours.

Title: AN EMS HELI FLC EXCEEDED THE 14 HR MAX DUTY DAY LIMITATION. THE FLC HAD BEEN ASSIGNED A TRIP WHICH WAS SCHEDULED TO RETURN PRIOR TO THE END OF THE NIGHT SHIFT DUTY PERIOD. PATIENT COMPLICATIONS CAUSED A DELAY THAT PLACED THE FLC BEYOND LEGAL LIMITATIONS.

THE PATIENT EXPERIENCED COMPLICATIONS AFTER BOARDING AND WAS TAKEN BACK INTO THE HOSPITAL. THIS DELAY PLACED THE FLC WELL PAST THEIR MAX DUTY DAY LIMITATION OF 14 HRS.
