Narrative:

IFR flight rvs to destination airport okc, downtown airpark (2DT). Arrived okc via trump 5 arrival and proceeded direct 2DT. Tracked in on will rogers VOR (irw) 203 degrees. Cleared for visual approach to 2DT. Pilot inbound mistakenly idented runway 35R at okc for intended runway 34 at 2DT. Both airports are on the same inbound radial and located 4-5 mi apart. Okc is southwest from 2DT. At some point between 2DT and okc, pilot announced to okc approach control that he is intending to or in the process of over-flying the airport and if there is no traffic in the area, desires to cancel his IFR flight plan. Control responds no traffic in area, IFR flight plan is closed, frequency change approved and to squawk 1200. Pilot acknowledges and makes changes. Pilot requests TA's on unicom 122.8 (at 2DT) and received no response. Pilot thereafter continues to announce position with no reply. Pilot unintentionally proceeds to cross over okc airport, turning sbound, then base and final for runway 35R. Upon realizing incorrect runway, climbs and proceeds direct to 2DT and lands. No loss of separation ever existed during inadvertent entry into okc airspace. To prevent re-occurrence: the 2 airports are close together and on the same inbound radial from the trump intersection. Pilot should identify positively and be very conscious not to overrun 2DT. Too, this pilot will never again cancel his IFR flight plan 'in the air' and in this case, lose radio communications. Maintaining radio contact in this case would have avoided the aforementioned scenario.

Title: SMT PLT MAKES APCH TO WRONG ARPT.

Narrative: IFR FLT RVS TO DEST ARPT OKC, DOWNTOWN AIRPARK (2DT). ARRIVED OKC VIA TRUMP 5 ARR AND PROCEEDED DIRECT 2DT. TRACKED IN ON WILL ROGERS VOR (IRW) 203 DEGS. CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH TO 2DT. PLT INBOUND MISTAKENLY IDENTED RWY 35R AT OKC FOR INTENDED RWY 34 AT 2DT. BOTH ARPTS ARE ON THE SAME INBOUND RADIAL AND LOCATED 4-5 MI APART. OKC IS SW FROM 2DT. AT SOME POINT BTWN 2DT AND OKC, PLT ANNOUNCED TO OKC APCH CTL THAT HE IS INTENDING TO OR IN THE PROCESS OF OVER-FLYING THE ARPT AND IF THERE IS NO TFC IN THE AREA, DESIRES TO CANCEL HIS IFR FLT PLAN. CTL RESPONDS NO TFC IN AREA, IFR FLT PLAN IS CLOSED, FREQ CHANGE APPROVED AND TO SQUAWK 1200. PLT ACKNOWLEDGES AND MAKES CHANGES. PLT REQUESTS TA'S ON UNICOM 122.8 (AT 2DT) AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. PLT THEREAFTER CONTINUES TO ANNOUNCE POS WITH NO REPLY. PLT UNINTENTIONALLY PROCEEDS TO CROSS OVER OKC ARPT, TURNING SBOUND, THEN BASE AND FINAL FOR RWY 35R. UPON REALIZING INCORRECT RWY, CLBS AND PROCEEDS DIRECT TO 2DT AND LANDS. NO LOSS OF SEPARATION EVER EXISTED DURING INADVERTENT ENTRY INTO OKC AIRSPACE. TO PREVENT RE-OCCURRENCE: THE 2 ARPTS ARE CLOSE TOGETHER AND ON THE SAME INBOUND RADIAL FROM THE TRUMP INTXN. PLT SHOULD IDENT POSITIVELY AND BE VERY CONSCIOUS NOT TO OVERRUN 2DT. TOO, THIS PLT WILL NEVER AGAIN CANCEL HIS IFR FLT PLAN 'IN THE AIR' AND IN THIS CASE, LOSE RADIO COMS. MAINTAINING RADIO CONTACT IN THIS CASE WOULD HAVE AVOIDED THE AFOREMENTIONED SCENARIO.
