Narrative:
En route jax to fll, experienced power loss and abnormal engine indications. Elected to perform precautionary engine shutdown of the #1 engine. Emergency declared and diverted to mco where an uneventful single engine landing was made. On approximately 4 mi final, mco tower cleared a heavy jet to takeoff in front of us. Although uneventful, we felt it was potentially hazardous if a go around was necessary.
