Narrative:

Leaving nashville to east about dusk. Called and got ATIS, called clearance, told them BL26, outbound 095 degrees at 3000 ft with ATIS. They game me squawk and departure frequency. Ground contacted. They said taxi to runway 2C. (Airport was using runways 2R, 2C, 2L and 31.) as I approached end of runway 2C I told tower ready to go runway 2C and I was cleared for takeoff. To this point no direction of flight had been given to me by any of the 3 ATC contacts. As I was taxiing into position, tower told an air carrier to taxi into position and hold runway 31, an aircraft was departing runway 2C (us). Runway 2C/31 cross flight paths. I told tower I could make a turn to east after liftoff to expedite the runway 31 departure, which would take my flight path directly over the threshold of runway 2R and my path short of runway 31. His reply was 'roger.' this to me meant he understood my transmission and since he did not object he gave his approval, since I had not been given any flight path instructions by any of the ATC (runway holding etc) contacts. To expedite transfer at a busy time I flew this path totally safely with no conflicts. When switching to departure tower said something to the effect that I should not have turned to the east. I said I suggested it prior to takeoff to expedite traffic and I thought he concurred. He said he said 'roger' which meant he understood my transmission. No other discussion was had except I apologized if I made a mistake or had a misunderstanding. Since I had no path instructions and he understood my intentions and did not object, I feel and felt my turn to the east was proper.

Title: BELLANCA DEPARTING MAKES TURN TO EXPEDITE AND SEPARATE OTHER DEPARTING TFC. NO CLRNC GIVEN TO DO SO.

Narrative: LEAVING NASHVILLE TO E ABOUT DUSK. CALLED AND GOT ATIS, CALLED CLRNC, TOLD THEM BL26, OUTBOUND 095 DEGS AT 3000 FT WITH ATIS. THEY GAME ME SQUAWK AND DEP FREQ. GND CONTACTED. THEY SAID TAXI TO RWY 2C. (ARPT WAS USING RWYS 2R, 2C, 2L AND 31.) AS I APCHED END OF RWY 2C I TOLD TWR READY TO GO RWY 2C AND I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. TO THIS POINT NO DIRECTION OF FLT HAD BEEN GIVEN TO ME BY ANY OF THE 3 ATC CONTACTS. AS I WAS TAXIING INTO POS, TWR TOLD AN ACR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD RWY 31, AN ACFT WAS DEPARTING RWY 2C (US). RWY 2C/31 CROSS FLT PATHS. I TOLD TWR I COULD MAKE A TURN TO E AFTER LIFTOFF TO EXPEDITE THE RWY 31 DEP, WHICH WOULD TAKE MY FLT PATH DIRECTLY OVER THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 2R AND MY PATH SHORT OF RWY 31. HIS REPLY WAS 'ROGER.' THIS TO ME MEANT HE UNDERSTOOD MY XMISSION AND SINCE HE DID NOT OBJECT HE GAVE HIS APPROVAL, SINCE I HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN ANY FLT PATH INSTRUCTIONS BY ANY OF THE ATC (RWY HOLDING ETC) CONTACTS. TO EXPEDITE TRANSFER AT A BUSY TIME I FLEW THIS PATH TOTALLY SAFELY WITH NO CONFLICTS. WHEN SWITCHING TO DEP TWR SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TURNED TO THE E. I SAID I SUGGESTED IT PRIOR TO TKOF TO EXPEDITE TFC AND I THOUGHT HE CONCURRED. HE SAID HE SAID 'ROGER' WHICH MEANT HE UNDERSTOOD MY XMISSION. NO OTHER DISCUSSION WAS HAD EXCEPT I APOLOGIZED IF I MADE A MISTAKE OR HAD A MISUNDERSTANDING. SINCE I HAD NO PATH INSTRUCTIONS AND HE UNDERSTOOD MY INTENTIONS AND DID NOT OBJECT, I FEEL AND FELT MY TURN TO THE E WAS PROPER.
