Narrative:

Departing atl on the last leg of a 3 day trip we failed to get the pre departure clearance. The best part of the story is how we discovered the oversight. Shortly after liftoff after checking in with departure control, the ATC controller said 'air carrier X, we had a transponder test and your score is in the window, all zeroes.' we scrambled to find the pre departure clearance and the first officer realized that he failed to go up to the gate to pick up the pre departure clearance. ATC quickly came back with a code to squawk and we proceeded on our way, soon receiving clearance direct to cvg. How did we fail to ensure that we had the pre departure clearance before pushback? The first officer is usually very good about getting a pre departure clearance or calling clearance delivery. In this case, not only were we at the end of a 3 day trip, but so were the flight attendants. We talked to them more than usual including just before pushback. Also, the gate agent did not deliver the pre departure clearance with the final paperwork as sometimes happens.

Title: ACR FLC FAILS TO PICK UP THEIR PDC AND MAKES TKOF WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: DEPARTING ATL ON THE LAST LEG OF A 3 DAY TRIP WE FAILED TO GET THE PDC. THE BEST PART OF THE STORY IS HOW WE DISCOVERED THE OVERSIGHT. SHORTLY AFTER LIFTOFF AFTER CHKING IN WITH DEP CTL, THE ATC CTLR SAID 'ACR X, WE HAD A XPONDER TEST AND YOUR SCORE IS IN THE WINDOW, ALL ZEROES.' WE SCRAMBLED TO FIND THE PDC AND THE FO REALIZED THAT HE FAILED TO GO UP TO THE GATE TO PICK UP THE PDC. ATC QUICKLY CAME BACK WITH A CODE TO SQUAWK AND WE PROCEEDED ON OUR WAY, SOON RECEIVING CLRNC DIRECT TO CVG. HOW DID WE FAIL TO ENSURE THAT WE HAD THE PDC BEFORE PUSHBACK? THE FO IS USUALLY VERY GOOD ABOUT GETTING A PDC OR CALLING CLRNC DELIVERY. IN THIS CASE, NOT ONLY WERE WE AT THE END OF A 3 DAY TRIP, BUT SO WERE THE FLT ATTENDANTS. WE TALKED TO THEM MORE THAN USUAL INCLUDING JUST BEFORE PUSHBACK. ALSO, THE GATE AGENT DID NOT DELIVER THE PDC WITH THE FINAL PAPERWORK AS SOMETIMES HAPPENS.
