Narrative:

During descent to FL240 we received a clearance to fly direct to volls after being vectored off airway. The PNF was inputting the position in the omega, it's not in the omega already, and he became confused with volunteer, knoxville. The PF descended through FL240 by some 400 ft. Altitude was regained and center said nothing. Broke the aviate, navigation, then communicate rule. Supplemental information from acn 316519: PNF interpreted direct volls as direct volunteer.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT TO FL240 WE RECEIVED A CLRNC TO FLY DIRECT TO VOLLS AFTER BEING VECTORED OFF AIRWAY.
