Narrative:

Initiated practice 'takeoff/landing.' clear and good visibility. First 'takeoff/landing' was normal, effective, safe. Second takeoff no problem. Both patterns for landing okay. Began final on second landing. Descent okay. Aligned for centerline. Airspeed at setting for aircraft. Reduced power beyond 'numbers,' 1000 ft marker. Began flare, pulling back on yoke. Flew over the runway, continued pulling back on yoke. Main gear touched down. Held yoke as main gear rolled down runway. Nosewheel touched down. All of a sudden, the nosewheel just collapsed. No personal injury sustained. Propeller bent on ends. No fuselage damage. No tires burst. Aircraft shutdown as per pilot's operation handbook checklist. The aircraft is used by student pilots as a trainer (4-5 current pilots). The incident certainly heightened my awareness of constant need for alertness. I reacted as I had been instructed in shutting down and vacating the aircraft. I really cannot explain nosewheel collapse.

Narrative: INITIATED PRACTICE 'TKOF/LNDG.' CLR AND GOOD VISIBILITY. FIRST 'TKOF/LNDG' WAS NORMAL, EFFECTIVE, SAFE. SECOND TKOF NO PROB. BOTH PATTERNS FOR LNDG OKAY. BEGAN FINAL ON SECOND LNDG. DSCNT OKAY. ALIGNED FOR CTRLINE. AIRSPD AT SETTING FOR ACFT. REDUCED PWR BEYOND 'NUMBERS,' 1000 FT MARKER. BEGAN FLARE, PULLING BACK ON YOKE. FLEW OVER THE RWY, CONTINUED PULLING BACK ON YOKE. MAIN GEAR TOUCHED DOWN. HELD YOKE AS MAIN GEAR ROLLED DOWN RWY. NOSEWHEEL TOUCHED DOWN. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE NOSEWHEEL JUST COLLAPSED. NO PERSONAL INJURY SUSTAINED. PROP BENT ON ENDS. NO FUSELAGE DAMAGE. NO TIRES BURST. ACFT SHUTDOWN AS PER PLT'S OP HANDBOOK CHKLIST. THE ACFT IS USED BY STUDENT PLTS AS A TRAINER (4-5 CURRENT PLTS). THE INCIDENT CERTAINLY HEIGHTENED MY AWARENESS OF CONSTANT NEED FOR ALERTNESS. I REACTED AS I HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED IN SHUTTING DOWN AND VACATING THE ACFT. I REALLY CANNOT EXPLAIN NOSEWHEEL COLLAPSE.
