Narrative:

At FL350 after being cleared to hold at rippi intersection on the sinca STAR into atl, the captain began to slow the aircraft to the FMS recommended holding airspeed of 208 KTS. I informed the captain that according to company procedures, the minimum holding airspeed at FL310 or above is 230 KIAS. The captain asked me where that information was located. I proceeded to read verbatim from the pilots reference manual. After listening to the paragraph, the captain continued to operate the aircraft at 25- 45 KTS below the recommended holding airspeed. Just prior to entering the holding fix rippi, the captain decided that he didn't want to hold as published with left turn because of a thunderstorm to the left. He requested r-hand turn with ZTL and was approved. Over rippi, the captain disconnected the autoplt and rolled into approximately 45 degrees of bank to the right. Buffet on the jet occurred immediately as we began to loose altitude. I verbalized stall, stall, but the captain failed to respond. I put my hands on the yoke and rolled out some bank simultaneously adding maximum power. I then selected climb power on the thrust management system panel. We lost 1200 ft, descending to 33800 ft MSL and took 3 mins to climb back to altitude.

Title: ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION. AN ACR CAPT ATTEMPTS TO OPERATE THE ACFT BELOW THE RECOMMENDED ENVELOPE AND THEN EXCEEDS THE MAX BANK ANGLES CAUSING A STALL, BUT ALLOWS THE FO TO RECOVER THE ACFT.

Narrative: AT FL350 AFTER BEING CLRED TO HOLD AT RIPPI INTXN ON THE SINCA STAR INTO ATL, THE CAPT BEGAN TO SLOW THE ACFT TO THE FMS RECOMMENDED HOLDING AIRSPD OF 208 KTS. I INFORMED THE CAPT THAT ACCORDING TO COMPANY PROCS, THE MINIMUM HOLDING AIRSPD AT FL310 OR ABOVE IS 230 KIAS. THE CAPT ASKED ME WHERE THAT INFO WAS LOCATED. I PROCEEDED TO READ VERBATIM FROM THE PLTS REF MANUAL. AFTER LISTENING TO THE PARAGRAPH, THE CAPT CONTINUED TO OPERATE THE ACFT AT 25- 45 KTS BELOW THE RECOMMENDED HOLDING AIRSPD. JUST PRIOR TO ENTERING THE HOLDING FIX RIPPI, THE CAPT DECIDED THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD AS PUBLISHED WITH L TURN BECAUSE OF A TSTM TO THE L. HE REQUESTED R-HAND TURN WITH ZTL AND WAS APPROVED. OVER RIPPI, THE CAPT DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND ROLLED INTO APPROX 45 DEGS OF BANK TO THE R. BUFFET ON THE JET OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AS WE BEGAN TO LOOSE ALT. I VERBALIZED STALL, STALL, BUT THE CAPT FAILED TO RESPOND. I PUT MY HANDS ON THE YOKE AND ROLLED OUT SOME BANK SIMULTANEOUSLY ADDING MAX PWR. I THEN SELECTED CLB PWR ON THE THRUST MGMNT SYS PANEL. WE LOST 1200 FT, DSNDING TO 33800 FT MSL AND TOOK 3 MINS TO CLB BACK TO ALT.
