Narrative:

First rotation of the month with a captain I had never flown with. We started taxi after pushback, without ground approval, entering taxiway el. I tried to get a word in to call for the taxi, but ground was busy. As we entered the taxiway ground called and asked who the aircraft was entering taxiway el. I told him our call sign and he sounded a little disgusted and said ok pull up to spot xy. There was already an airplane at spot xy. So we pulled up to spot xx, blocking the whole taxiway. The ground controller then asked why we were on xx and not xy. I told him sorry about that. (Our special pages specifically state 'do not block the taxiway.') we were then given a sequence to follow and the rest of the flight went normally. 1) each pilot needs to know the rules for taxi don't assume the captain is familiar with the taxi route and rules. 2) read the special pages before taxi is started, even at an airport you are familiar with. Changes in numbering on new txwys can change the whole process. 3) if you are uncomfortable, say so.

Narrative: FIRST ROTATION OF THE MONTH WITH A CAPT I HAD NEVER FLOWN WITH. WE STARTED TAXI AFTER PUSHBACK, WITHOUT GND APPROVAL, ENTERING TXWY EL. I TRIED TO GET A WORD IN TO CALL FOR THE TAXI, BUT GND WAS BUSY. AS WE ENTERED THE TXWY GND CALLED AND ASKED WHO THE ACFT WAS ENTERING TXWY EL. I TOLD HIM OUR CALL SIGN AND HE SOUNDED A LITTLE DISGUSTED AND SAID OK PULL UP TO SPOT XY. THERE WAS ALREADY AN AIRPLANE AT SPOT XY. SO WE PULLED UP TO SPOT XX, BLOCKING THE WHOLE TXWY. THE GND CTLR THEN ASKED WHY WE WERE ON XX AND NOT XY. I TOLD HIM SORRY ABOUT THAT. (OUR SPECIAL PAGES SPECIFICALLY STATE 'DO NOT BLOCK THE TXWY.') WE WERE THEN GIVEN A SEQUENCE TO FOLLOW AND THE REST OF THE FLT WENT NORMALLY. 1) EACH PLT NEEDS TO KNOW THE RULES FOR TAXI DON'T ASSUME THE CAPT IS FAMILIAR WITH THE TAXI RTE AND RULES. 2) READ THE SPECIAL PAGES BEFORE TAXI IS STARTED, EVEN AT AN ARPT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH. CHANGES IN NUMBERING ON NEW TXWYS CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE PROCESS. 3) IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE, SAY SO.
