Narrative:

Departed white plains airport. 5-10 NM south of bradley, I wanted to land and get fuel. I still had 2 hours left. I tried telling bradley of my intentions at which point I lost radio communications. Slightly disoriented I mistakenly landed at rentschler. Realizing my mistake I took off for brainard. Still having no radio I entered the traffic pattern at brainard. At all times looking for a light signal. I saw none. I tried transmitting with no luck. I landed safely and called unicom after jiggling the radios and appeared to work. I called the tower and apologized for inconveniencing them. I then spoke with bradley approach and explained what had happened. Bradley said that no report would be filed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said he was flying a 160 hp piper warrior. He had flown from beverly airport to westchester county airport to the hartford area when he decided he would like more fuel. He was in contact with bradley approach control when his VHF failed. He misidentified the rentschler airport for hartford brainard. Someone at rentschler airport told him he had landed at a private airport and must leave. He said he called bradley approach control on the telephone to explain what happened and they said no action against him would be taken at this time.
