Narrative:

After landing at san antonio international airport (sat), we taxied the aircraft to gate. While approaching the gate, we observed a fuel truck that was positioned perpendicular to the concourse building, and straddling the wing line on the right side of the aircraft parking position. We also observed 3 ground service representatives (gsr). 1 of the 3 was positioned on a tug that sat at the base of the parking spot. The other 2 were walking toward the aircraft wingtips as we taxied forward. The ground service representative on the tug had his arms raised and signaling all clear, taxi forward. At the same time the ground service representatives near the wings gave no indication of danger or problems. As we taxied forward toward the tug, the 2 wing walkers moved out of visual range. The ground service representative on the tug remained in view. Shortly before coming to a stop at the gate, the captain and I felt a slight bump. The ground service representative on the tug continued to signal all clear. He placed his arms in the crossed position only when we had reached the normal stopping point. After coming to a stop we were notified that the right wing had come in contact with the fuel truck. The captain and I inspected the area and discovered that several ft of the aircraft wing was resting on top of the fuel truck. Only damage was scratched paint on the wing. Passenger and baggage deplaning were accomplished without incident. A ground service representative suggested that we release the aircraft parking brake so that they could attempt to push the aircraft backward. We declined to do so. An appropriate entry was placed in the aircraft logbook.

Title: MD-88 HITS FUEL TRUCK WITH WING DURING RAMP OP ACFT PARKING PROC.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT SAN ANTONIO INTL ARPT (SAT), WE TAXIED THE ACFT TO GATE. WHILE APCHING THE GATE, WE OBSERVED A FUEL TRUCK THAT WAS POSITIONED PERPENDICULAR TO THE CONCOURSE BUILDING, AND STRADDLING THE WING LINE ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT PARKING POS. WE ALSO OBSERVED 3 GND SVC REPRESENTATIVES (GSR). 1 OF THE 3 WAS POSITIONED ON A TUG THAT SAT AT THE BASE OF THE PARKING SPOT. THE OTHER 2 WERE WALKING TOWARD THE ACFT WINGTIPS AS WE TAXIED FORWARD. THE GND SVC REPRESENTATIVE ON THE TUG HAD HIS ARMS RAISED AND SIGNALING ALL CLR, TAXI FORWARD. AT THE SAME TIME THE GND SVC REPRESENTATIVES NEAR THE WINGS GAVE NO INDICATION OF DANGER OR PROBS. AS WE TAXIED FORWARD TOWARD THE TUG, THE 2 WING WALKERS MOVED OUT OF VISUAL RANGE. THE GND SVC REPRESENTATIVE ON THE TUG REMAINED IN VIEW. SHORTLY BEFORE COMING TO A STOP AT THE GATE, THE CAPT AND I FELT A SLIGHT BUMP. THE GND SVC REPRESENTATIVE ON THE TUG CONTINUED TO SIGNAL ALL CLR. HE PLACED HIS ARMS IN THE CROSSED POS ONLY WHEN WE HAD REACHED THE NORMAL STOPPING POINT. AFTER COMING TO A STOP WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THE R WING HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE FUEL TRUCK. THE CAPT AND I INSPECTED THE AREA AND DISCOVERED THAT SEVERAL FT OF THE ACFT WING WAS RESTING ON TOP OF THE FUEL TRUCK. ONLY DAMAGE WAS SCRATCHED PAINT ON THE WING. PAX AND BAGGAGE DEPLANING WERE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT INCIDENT. A GND SVC REPRESENTATIVE SUGGESTED THAT WE RELEASE THE ACFT PARKING BRAKE SO THAT THEY COULD ATTEMPT TO PUSH THE ACFT BACKWARD. WE DECLINED TO DO SO. AN APPROPRIATE ENTRY WAS PLACED IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK.
