Narrative:

During cruise, a passenger notified us that the flight attendant was 'down.' I told the first officer to go back and assess the situation. A few mins later he returned and informed me she was conscious but not alert. We had 10 emt's on board and 1 of them was treating her. I told the first officer to return to the cabin, to secure it for landing, and make a PA about seat belt usage, etc. The flight attendant was unable to perform her duties, eg, situation in her seat to guard the main exit door, so I declared an emergency on the basis of that. After arriving at destination, I found out that the flight attendant had hit the ceiling of the cabin during a brief encounter with moderate turbulence. It was smooth otherwise. There were lines of thunderstorms in the region, but we were at least 100 mi away from them. She suffered 2 concussions and had been unconscious about 3 mins. If I had known she had been unconscious, I would have diverted to the nearest airport. I asked a lot of questions during the event, but somehow that important fact (unconsciousness) was edited.

Title: COMMUTER ACFT DECLARED EMER DUE TO CABIN ATTENDANT INJURY.

Narrative: DURING CRUISE, A PAX NOTIFIED US THAT THE FLT ATTENDANT WAS 'DOWN.' I TOLD THE FO TO GO BACK AND ASSESS THE SIT. A FEW MINS LATER HE RETURNED AND INFORMED ME SHE WAS CONSCIOUS BUT NOT ALERT. WE HAD 10 EMT'S ON BOARD AND 1 OF THEM WAS TREATING HER. I TOLD THE FO TO RETURN TO THE CABIN, TO SECURE IT FOR LNDG, AND MAKE A PA ABOUT SEAT BELT USAGE, ETC. THE FLT ATTENDANT WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM HER DUTIES, EG, SIT IN HER SEAT TO GUARD THE MAIN EXIT DOOR, SO I DECLARED AN EMER ON THE BASIS OF THAT. AFTER ARRIVING AT DEST, I FOUND OUT THAT THE FLT ATTENDANT HAD HIT THE CEILING OF THE CABIN DURING A BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH MODERATE TURB. IT WAS SMOOTH OTHERWISE. THERE WERE LINES OF TSTMS IN THE REGION, BUT WE WERE AT LEAST 100 MI AWAY FROM THEM. SHE SUFFERED 2 CONCUSSIONS AND HAD BEEN UNCONSCIOUS ABOUT 3 MINS. IF I HAD KNOWN SHE HAD BEEN UNCONSCIOUS, I WOULD HAVE DIVERTED TO THE NEAREST ARPT. I ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS DURING THE EVENT, BUT SOMEHOW THAT IMPORTANT FACT (UNCONSCIOUSNESS) WAS EDITED.
