Narrative:

On taxi out, the spring-load function of the rudder trim knob would not work if the knob positioned full left or right and then released. All other position and functions operate normally. Spring-load function also operated normally upon arrival at destination. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the rudder trim would work properly if the trim knob was moved partially. Whenever moved fully, it would stick in that position. Movement could always be controled if it was moved in small incremental movements. At no time did the rudder trim knob stick in a position that would drive the trim continuously to full displacement.
