Narrative:

Ground control cleared us to taxi on to taxiway 'D' hold short of active takeoff runway 26L that they would use 26R because we had a slot time. After crossing takeoff active runway 26L we asked if there would be a delay or would we be going ahead of the long line of aircraft waiting to takeoff on runway 26L. They said to hurry on down and they were going to be ready to clear us for takeoff as soon as we got to the end. We immediately started the other engine and ran our checks - I somehow 'locked' on runway 26L as our takeoff runway. As they were landing on runway 26R and passed the takeoff end of runway 26R. On my way to runway 26L before I remembered ground control had said runway 26R for us for takeoff. The captain also caught it and reminded me. This section of the taxi is so close to the approach path of runway 26R that it causes a conflict of clear space when a heavy 767 is on this taxiway. Tower also noticed our error and had to send 1 aircraft on final, around. Tower quickly cleared us for takeoff on runway 26L to resolve the problem for other landing traffic. Mental error was mine, as I locked on runway 26L as the takeoff runway, and was planning my taxi accordingly until it was too late. We were not aware that the tail of a 767 would cause a conflict in clearance way of runway 26R when on taxiway B, east end. Climbing north.

Title: B767-200 TAXIES TO WRONG RWY AT ATL. TXWY SO CLOSE TO LNDG RWY CAUSED ACFT ON FINAL TO GAR.

Narrative: GND CTL CLRED US TO TAXI ON TO TXWY 'D' HOLD SHORT OF ACTIVE TKOF RWY 26L THAT THEY WOULD USE 26R BECAUSE WE HAD A SLOT TIME. AFTER XING TKOF ACTIVE RWY 26L WE ASKED IF THERE WOULD BE A DELAY OR WOULD WE BE GOING AHEAD OF THE LONG LINE OF ACFT WAITING TO TKOF ON RWY 26L. THEY SAID TO HURRY ON DOWN AND THEY WERE GOING TO BE READY TO CLR US FOR TKOF AS SOON AS WE GOT TO THE END. WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED THE OTHER ENG AND RAN OUR CHKS - I SOMEHOW 'LOCKED' ON RWY 26L AS OUR TKOF RWY. AS THEY WERE LNDG ON RWY 26R AND PASSED THE TKOF END OF RWY 26R. ON MY WAY TO RWY 26L BEFORE I REMEMBERED GND CTL HAD SAID RWY 26R FOR US FOR TKOF. THE CAPT ALSO CAUGHT IT AND REMINDED ME. THIS SECTION OF THE TAXI IS SO CLOSE TO THE APCH PATH OF RWY 26R THAT IT CAUSES A CONFLICT OF CLR SPACE WHEN A HVY 767 IS ON THIS TXWY. TWR ALSO NOTICED OUR ERROR AND HAD TO SEND 1 ACFT ON FINAL, AROUND. TWR QUICKLY CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 26L TO RESOLVE THE PROB FOR OTHER LNDG TFC. MENTAL ERROR WAS MINE, AS I LOCKED ON RWY 26L AS THE TKOF RWY, AND WAS PLANNING MY TAXI ACCORDINGLY UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE. WE WERE NOT AWARE THAT THE TAIL OF A 767 WOULD CAUSE A CONFLICT IN CLRNC WAY OF RWY 26R WHEN ON TXWY B, E END. CLBING N.
