Narrative:

While making the ILS approach in VFR conditions tower told me to make a right downwind for runway 13. I asked to continue the approach to the MM before breaking off. I made a right turn to left downwind and landed on runway 17. Preoccupied with practicing the ILS and mistook right downwind, for right turn to downwind. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was flying a cessna 421. He stated he was cleared to land on runway 13 while still on the ILS approach to runway 31 so the tower did not notice until after he landed on runway 17 what had happened.

Title: PLT DEVIATES FROM TWR INSTRUCTIONS. BY MAKING L DOWNWIND AND LNDG ON RWY 17 INSTEAD OF R DOWNWIND AND LNDG ON RWY 13.

Narrative: WHILE MAKING THE ILS APCH IN VFR CONDITIONS TWR TOLD ME TO MAKE A R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 13. I ASKED TO CONTINUE THE APCH TO THE MM BEFORE BREAKING OFF. I MADE A R TURN TO L DOWNWIND AND LANDED ON RWY 17. PREOCCUPIED WITH PRACTICING THE ILS AND MISTOOK R DOWNWIND, FOR R TURN TO DOWNWIND. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED HE WAS FLYING A CESSNA 421. HE STATED HE WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 13 WHILE STILL ON THE ILS APCH TO RWY 31 SO THE TWR DID NOT NOTICE UNTIL AFTER HE LANDED ON RWY 17 WHAT HAD HAPPENED.
