Narrative:
Air carrier X was swbound descending to FL280. Air carrier Y was sebound at FL290. The altitude in the data block of air carrier X was FL310 due to a previous clearance. I was unable to update the data block due to an interfacility handoff being accepted. When air carrier X left FL310, the conflict alert feature activated. I turned air carrier X to a north heading and cleared him back to FL310.
