Narrative:

ATC assigned us an altitude of 8000 ft on approach to hnl. 3000 ft was set in altitude alert window mistakenly. I descended to 5500 ft when first officer reminded me that the assigned altitude was 8000 ft aircraft was climbed back to 8000 ft without any adverse affect on traffic.
