Narrative:

Flight was from den to tus. Tus approach control had cleared us to 8000 ft. We had passed a lifeguard twin cessna on our right shortly before clearance to 8000 ft. Vectors put us on a high left base leg to runway 11L outside of rival FAF. The previous week on an identical flight, approach control had cleared us for a visual approach shortly after clearance to 8000 ft. While observing the cessna aircraft and planning for a visual approach to runway 11L. I (PF) inadvertently descended below 8000 ft (7600 ft). I immediately climbed back to 8000 ft. No aircraft conflict occurred and we were cleared for a visual approach shortly after. Problem arose while maintaining visual with cessna aircraft. Also, approach control kept us very high for a left base visual to runway 11L. There were no other aircraft in our immediate area and we were not told the reason for the high base leg altitude. Anticipating a visual approach contributed to the altitude deviation. All system and warning devices operated normally which kept the deviation to a minimum. Supplemental information from acn 299278: I was watching the cessna when the aircraft went to 7600 ft. At the altitude alert, the captain climbed back to 8000 ft. The problem occurred due to the cessna aircraft being our concern and anticipating a visual approach.

WHILE OBSERVING THE CESSNA ACFT AND PLANNING FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 11L. I (PF) INADVERTENTLY DSNDED BELOW 8000 FT (7600 FT). I IMMEDIATELY CLBED BACK TO 8000 FT. NO ACFT CONFLICT OCCURRED AND WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH SHORTLY AFTER. PROB AROSE WHILE MAINTAINING VISUAL WITH CESSNA ACFT. ALSO, APCH CTL KEPT US VERY HIGH FOR A L BASE VISUAL TO RWY 11L. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT IN OUR IMMEDIATE AREA AND WE WERE NOT TOLD THE REASON FOR THE HIGH BASE LEG ALT. ANTICIPATING A VISUAL APCH CONTRIBUTED TO THE ALTDEV.
