Narrative:

We were talking to ZAB on frequency 134.32 and had been cleared to FL280. The autoplt was engaged and the airplane was climbing at a programmed speed of 300 KIAS. The speed had built to approximately 320 KIAS and the autoplt increased pitch to regain target speed. Passing FL267 the controller directed us to level at FL270. The airplane at this point was climbing at 4000 FPM. The captain advised artc 'we would do our best' to level at FL270. I disengaged the autoplt and leveled at FL273 and corrected to FL270. We told the controller we needed more than a 300 ft notice to level off. He stated his apology. He said it was his fault because on his screen we were only passing FL260. We changed frequencys at XA00 Z and as we did, the controller said there had been no traffic conflict.

THE CAPT ADVISED ARTC 'WE WOULD DO OUR BEST' TO LEVEL AT FL270. I DISENGAGED THE AUTOPLT AND LEVELED AT FL273 AND CORRECTED TO FL270. WE TOLD THE CTLR WE NEEDED MORE THAN A 300 FT NOTICE TO LEVEL OFF. HE STATED HIS APOLOGY. HE SAID IT WAS HIS FAULT BECAUSE ON HIS SCREEN WE WERE ONLY PASSING FL260. WE CHANGED FREQS AT XA00 Z AND AS WE DID, THE CTLR SAID THERE HAD BEEN NO TFC CONFLICT.
