Narrative:

Aircraft was ferried to phl with nose gear unsafe light from syr. Crew that ferried aircraft noted they had not had a nose gear light problem. There was no write-up or verbal about what syr mechanics did to aircraft. Put aircraft in hangar. Talked to tech center about write-ups on aircraft. Decided to jack aircraft and swing the nose gear, to see if we could get problem to occur. Before jacking aircraft we discussed how we were going to jack aircraft. Aircraft was jacked without any problems. Operated nose gear numerous times, everything ok. Started to let gear down when we heard a noise, the aircraft slowly fell to the ground. Forward aircraft jack pad was installed in drain line hole. Drain line hole and jack pad hole are about the same size. There were no markings on either hole. To indicate drain hole or jacking paint. When approaching aircraft from right side drain must also hide jack pad hole. I think by marking holes with an indication of jack point and not a jack point would prevent this problem from happening again, also more important to stop anyone from serious harm.
