Narrative:

Air carrier X checked in approximately 16 mi out air carrier Y did the same 4.2 mi behind X. I checked this mileage view the computer. The mileage between the 2 was holding with comparable speeds. X slowed at the OM. When X touched down. The distance had closed a little. Still in my thoughts the distance between was sufficient. The tower supervisor called down and said it was getting close. Since X was on the ground, I elected to continue the approach with Y. At this time the tower supervisor called down and said break Y out. The local controller and I did it almost simultaneously.
