Narrative:

Pilot called ojc tower 126.0 and reported over hillsdale lake (approximately 10 mi southwest ojc) for landing with ATIS information. Runway 17 was active. Ojc tower advised to call 3 mi southwest for right downwind, at this point, aircraft heading 050 degrees, 5500 ft MSL, squawking 1200. Aircraft descended to 3500 ft MSL and turned northerly toward airport. Aircraft had all lights on (navigation, beacon, strobe and taxi-landing light). Ojc VOR 113.0 was tuned and idented. Azimuth and DME were unreliable so pilot navigated visually. No traffic was reported or observed. At approximately 3-4 mi from control tower, pilot realized that airport was joco industrial (ixd) instead of joco executive (ojc) and announced that he was turning left and departing area to west. Aircraft climbed to 4500 ft MSL heading 270 degrees, then commenced left turn around to land ojc. Aircraft landed ojc runway 17 without incident.

Narrative: PLT CALLED OJC TWR 126.0 AND RPTED OVER HILLSDALE LAKE (APPROX 10 MI SW OJC) FOR LNDG WITH ATIS INFO. RWY 17 WAS ACTIVE. OJC TWR ADVISED TO CALL 3 MI SW FOR R DOWNWIND, AT THIS POINT, ACFT HDG 050 DEGS, 5500 FT MSL, SQUAWKING 1200. ACFT DSNDED TO 3500 FT MSL AND TURNED NORTHERLY TOWARD ARPT. ACFT HAD ALL LIGHTS ON (NAV, BEACON, STROBE AND TAXI-LNDG LIGHT). OJC VOR 113.0 WAS TUNED AND IDENTED. AZIMUTH AND DME WERE UNRELIABLE SO PLT NAVIGATED VISUALLY. NO TFC WAS RPTED OR OBSERVED. AT APPROX 3-4 MI FROM CTL TWR, PLT REALIZED THAT ARPT WAS JOCO INDUSTRIAL (IXD) INSTEAD OF JOCO EXECUTIVE (OJC) AND ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS TURNING L AND DEPARTING AREA TO W. ACFT CLBED TO 4500 FT MSL HDG 270 DEGS, THEN COMMENCED L TURN AROUND TO LAND OJC. ACFT LANDED OJC RWY 17 WITHOUT INCIDENT.
