Narrative:

On a VFR approach to lax, I was instructed by socal approach control to depart seal beach VOR on a heading for vectors to lax at 3500 ft. Perhaps 5 mi out of lax I was cleared for runway 25L. I told the controller I was descending out of 3000 ft a few moments later -- then instructed to contact tower -- I had some difficulty in contacting them, but did, and was cleared to land. I was asked to call the tower which I did. They advised me that I had an 'incursion' with a king air over hawthorne. I never saw him, and thought approach control had cleared me to descend for runway 25L.
