Narrative:

At gate flight attendant had difficulty closing main cabin door, they are supposed to check alignment pins before securing the outer handle, door was assisted shut by agent from outside. EICAS page showed door closed. In climb out got passenger door message. Cabin altitude was 1200 ft. We leveled off and ran checklist. Item of 'depressurizing cabin' was skipped due to low cabin altitude, we returned to oma and landed. I am concerned that as PIC I did not ask the flight attendant to check witness marks (alignment pins) prior to pushback. Cockpit resource management good, good communications between pilots and cabin crew.
