Narrative:

On departure climb from smf, per clearance turned right to a 210 degree heading. Out of 1000 ft continued right turn to 300 degree heading and continued our climb to FL350. Out of 3000 ft the controller asked if we forgot to level off at 2000 ft. Rechked the clearance received from smf ground -- no 2000 ft restr copied or read back. Set FL350 in altitude alerter on the ground. During our clearance receipt, several problems were going on and the cockpit workload was extremely heavy. However, clearance readback had no restr and was not corrected by the ground controller. Departure controller said no conflict occurred.
