Narrative:

We were cleared from 11000 ft to FL290 autoplt in performance. Pms did not switch to climb so I selected IAS to get the climb started. Through FL280 the altitude was set FL290 and armed. At 29300 ft the alert sounded and we returned to FL290. It appears the pms and possibly the autoflt system did not get the new selected altitude of FL290 though it was annunciated properly on the fdms.

Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FROM 11000 FT TO FL290 AUTOPLT IN PERFORMANCE. PMS DID NOT SWITCH TO CLB SO I SELECTED IAS TO GET THE CLB STARTED. THROUGH FL280 THE ALT WAS SET FL290 AND ARMED. AT 29300 FT THE ALERT SOUNDED AND WE RETURNED TO FL290. IT APPEARS THE PMS AND POSSIBLY THE AUTOFLT SYS DID NOT GET THE NEW SELECTED ALT OF FL290 THOUGH IT WAS ANNUNCIATED PROPERLY ON THE FDMS.
