Narrative:

We (captain and I) were given clearance to cross 'hoggs' intersection at 19000 ft. We were on arrival from south, to new york. I (copilot) misread chart, next intersection is about 8 mi further. Read that one instead of hoggs. Captain asked 'if I was going to make the crossing at hoggs.' I increased our descent by using speed brakes and we crossed ok. The captain started 'fussing about planning ahead' etc. We were given our next clearance to cross cameron at 11000 ft. Since the captain was involved with his 'lecture' to me, I missed the part of the clearance that we were to cross cameron at 250 KTS also. Consequently, we crossed cameron at 11000 ft and 300 KTS, instead of 250 KTS as requested. Now the captain is really excited. He says 'you're going to have me having to answer to the general manager of flying. Why weren't you 250 KTS at cameron!' I slowed immediately to 250 KTS. We continued and landed at jfk airport with no response from center or approach about the excessive speed at cameron. I think the problem was caused by a breakdown of crew resource management by the captain. Had he been as vigilant in monitoring our letdown arrival progress into new york as he was intent on 'lecturing' the copilot on an oversight in reading the chart, the excessive speed at cameron would not have occurred. I talked to a representative of professional standards. Perhaps they will send a representative to discuss this with the captain. The captain had about 300 hours in the aircraft at the start of our trip several days before.

Title: LGT ACFT MAKES SPD DEV ON ARR PROC.

Narrative: WE (CAPT AND I) WERE GIVEN CLRNC TO CROSS 'HOGGS' INTXN AT 19000 FT. WE WERE ON ARR FROM S, TO NEW YORK. I (COPLT) MISREAD CHART, NEXT INTXN IS ABOUT 8 MI FURTHER. READ THAT ONE INSTEAD OF HOGGS. CAPT ASKED 'IF I WAS GOING TO MAKE THE XING AT HOGGS.' I INCREASED OUR DSCNT BY USING SPD BRAKES AND WE CROSSED OK. THE CAPT STARTED 'FUSSING ABOUT PLANNING AHEAD' ETC. WE WERE GIVEN OUR NEXT CLRNC TO CROSS CAMERON AT 11000 FT. SINCE THE CAPT WAS INVOLVED WITH HIS 'LECTURE' TO ME, I MISSED THE PART OF THE CLRNC THAT WE WERE TO CROSS CAMERON AT 250 KTS ALSO. CONSEQUENTLY, WE CROSSED CAMERON AT 11000 FT AND 300 KTS, INSTEAD OF 250 KTS AS REQUESTED. NOW THE CAPT IS REALLY EXCITED. HE SAYS 'YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE ME HAVING TO ANSWER TO THE GENERAL MGR OF FLYING. WHY WEREN'T YOU 250 KTS AT CAMERON!' I SLOWED IMMEDIATELY TO 250 KTS. WE CONTINUED AND LANDED AT JFK ARPT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM CTR OR APCH ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE SPD AT CAMERON. I THINK THE PROB WAS CAUSED BY A BREAKDOWN OF CREW RESOURCE MGMNT BY THE CAPT. HAD HE BEEN AS VIGILANT IN MONITORING OUR LETDOWN ARR PROGRESS INTO NEW YORK AS HE WAS INTENT ON 'LECTURING' THE COPLT ON AN OVERSIGHT IN READING THE CHART, THE EXCESSIVE SPD AT CAMERON WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED. I TALKED TO A REPRESENTATIVE OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS. PERHAPS THEY WILL SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO DISCUSS THIS WITH THE CAPT. THE CAPT HAD ABOUT 300 HRS IN THE ACFT AT THE START OF OUR TRIP SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE.
