Narrative:

We taxied out of the gate without a taxi clearance. I (the captain) was off the ground frequency finishing the engine start and clearing off the ground crew, when the first officer called ground for taxi. I heard him call, but wasn't on the frequency to hear the response. He didn't transmit on ground control so there wasn't a response. He didn't inform me of this so I assumed we were cleared to the runway. I stated runway 32L and he (the first officer) said yes. Ground control stopped us soon afterward.
