Narrative:

I am government agent/pilot. While flying a government owned uh-1 helicopter, inadvertently flew into a restr/prohibited area. The event occurred while conducting a familiarization flight for government action. Teams to consider possible landing sites for deployment of the action teams in the event of an emergency during vip visit to the miami, fl, area. The flight crew was briefed by the appropriate auths that no location would be restr/prohibited until XY40 am. At XX00 am we departed opf airport for the scheduled 50 min flight. We climbed to 500 ft AGL and flew east to the shoreline. Contact was established with the miami airport control tower and thereafter idented our aircraft as a law enforcement aircraft by stating our call sign as 'abc.' we idented our current position and advised ATC that we were going to conduct a familiarization flight south on the shoreline of florida. After establishing radio contact we flew east to haulover park which we circled because it was a possible landing zone site for dignitaries associated with the vip's visit. We thereafter proceeded south to the next site, which was the XXX hotel. At some point near this location the miami control tower assigned a transponder code to our flight. We subsequently circled the hotel to the right at 500 ft, making only 1 complete circle. Our initial course took us by the hotel on the east side, over the beach. We made a turn to the right for 1 complete circle of approximately 2 mins duration at the south side of the hotel. After completion of the circle, we made a left turn and proceeded south for the rest of the flight. After returning and landing at opf airport (XX50 am) we were informed that the briefing we received prior to the flight had been in error and that the hotel was prohibited airspace during the time of our flight. All NOTAMS had been checked by our briefing personnel but had been misstated during the briefing by being 1 day off in regard to the hotel. The only information received from FAA ATC entities during the entire flight, departure to return, was TA's and other normal flight information. Also, we were never advised by the ATC that we were in or near a prohibited or otherwise restr area. This matter is presently under an administrative inquiry within the government agency in order to ascertain the cause of the briefing error and to prevent any recurrences in the future.

WE IDENTED OUR CURRENT POS AND ADVISED ATC THAT WE WERE GOING TO CONDUCT A FAMILIARIZATION FLT S ON THE SHORELINE OF FLORIDA. AFTER ESTABLISHING RADIO CONTACT WE FLEW E TO HAULOVER PARK WHICH WE CIRCLED BECAUSE IT WAS A POSSIBLE LNDG ZONE SITE FOR DIGNITARIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIP'S VISIT. WE THEREAFTER PROCEEDED S TO THE NEXT SITE, WHICH WAS THE XXX HOTEL. AT SOME POINT NEAR THIS LOCATION THE MIAMI CTL TWR ASSIGNED A XPONDER CODE TO OUR FLT. WE SUBSEQUENTLY CIRCLED THE HOTEL TO THE R AT 500 FT, MAKING ONLY 1 COMPLETE CIRCLE. OUR INITIAL COURSE TOOK US BY THE HOTEL ON THE E SIDE, OVER THE BEACH. WE MADE A TURN TO THE R FOR 1 COMPLETE CIRCLE OF APPROX 2 MINS DURATION AT THE S SIDE OF THE HOTEL. AFTER COMPLETION OF THE CIRCLE, WE MADE A L TURN AND PROCEEDED S FOR THE REST OF THE FLT. AFTER RETURNING AND LNDG AT OPF ARPT (XX50 AM) WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE BRIEFING WE RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE FLT HAD BEEN IN ERROR AND THAT THE HOTEL WAS PROHIBITED AIRSPACE DURING THE TIME OF OUR FLT. ALL NOTAMS HAD BEEN CHKED BY OUR BRIEFING PERSONNEL BUT HAD BEEN MISSTATED DURING THE BRIEFING BY BEING 1 DAY OFF IN REGARD TO THE HOTEL. THE ONLY INFO RECEIVED FROM FAA ATC ENTITIES DURING THE ENTIRE FLT, DEP TO RETURN, WAS TA'S AND OTHER NORMAL FLT INFO. ALSO, WE WERE NEVER ADVISED BY THE ATC THAT WE WERE IN OR NEAR A PROHIBITED OR OTHERWISE RESTR AREA. THIS MATTER IS PRESENTLY UNDER AN ADMINISTRATIVE INQUIRY WITHIN THE GOV AGENCY IN ORDER TO ASCERTAIN THE CAUSE OF THE BRIEFING ERROR AND TO PREVENT ANY RECURRENCES IN THE FUTURE.
