Narrative:

While working moderate traffic on runway 18L/right finals at mem airport, several aircraft for runway 18L reporting an interference of the localizer frequency from a radio station. This situation during moderate to heavy traffic caused increased workload to the final controller. Factors were: aircraft were unable to maintain altitude due to turbulence and unable to intercept localizer with a reliable signal until inside 12 DME. Finals at the time were extended 20 mi and more at times which required the runway 18L final controller to conduct surveillance approachs to aircraft until receiving the localizer.

Title: ACR X RECEIVED RADIO STATION INTERFERENCE ON RWY 18L LOC FREQ 108 PT 3. ONGOING PROB RPTED BY SEVERAL ACRS. RADIO STATION FREQ FM100.

Narrative: WHILE WORKING MODERATE TFC ON RWY 18L/R FINALS AT MEM ARPT, SEVERAL ACFT FOR RWY 18L RPTING AN INTERFERENCE OF THE LOC FREQ FROM A RADIO STATION. THIS SIT DURING MODERATE TO HVY TFC CAUSED INCREASED WORKLOAD TO THE FINAL CTLR. FACTORS WERE: ACFT WERE UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ALT DUE TO TURB AND UNABLE TO INTERCEPT LOC WITH A RELIABLE SIGNAL UNTIL INSIDE 12 DME. FINALS AT THE TIME WERE EXTENDED 20 MI AND MORE AT TIMES WHICH REQUIRED THE RWY 18L FINAL CTLR TO CONDUCT SURVEILLANCE APCHS TO ACFT UNTIL RECEIVING THE LOC.
