Narrative:
It was the first officer's leg. After takeoff, he called for the 'after takeoff checklist.' at that time I turned on the cabin bleed switches and rotated the bleed selector to a point 1/2 way between minimum and maximum. During leveloff at 17000 ft, the cabin pressure warning light came on. I called for the loss of cabin pressure checklist and the second item read bleed selector -- maximum. Then I realized that I did not turn the selector to a maximum position. Then set the selector to maximum. In my haste I did not give the pressurization system enough time to react and declared an emergency with center. After that, the pressurization system began to correct itself and I canceled the emergency explaining that I did not have the bleed selector to a maximum position. The flight progressed to swf with no further incident. My duty day began at XA00 with a deadhead to orf. By the time the cabin pressure light came on, I was pushing a 12 hour duty day, logged nearly 7 hours of flight time and 6 legs.

Title: FLC INDUCED PRESSURIZATION PROB.
Narrative: IT WAS THE FO'S LEG. AFTER TKOF, HE CALLED FOR THE 'AFTER TKOF CHKLIST.' AT THAT TIME I TURNED ON THE CABIN BLEED SWITCHES AND ROTATED THE BLEED SELECTOR TO A POINT 1/2 WAY BTWN MINIMUM AND MAX. DURING LEVELOFF AT 17000 FT, THE CABIN PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED FOR THE LOSS OF CABIN PRESSURE CHKLIST AND THE SECOND ITEM READ BLEED SELECTOR -- MAX. THEN I REALIZED THAT I DID NOT TURN THE SELECTOR TO A MAX POS. THEN SET THE SELECTOR TO MAX. IN MY HASTE I DID NOT GIVE THE PRESSURIZATION SYS ENOUGH TIME TO REACT AND DECLARED AN EMER WITH CTR. AFTER THAT, THE PRESSURIZATION SYS BEGAN TO CORRECT ITSELF AND I CANCELED THE EMER EXPLAINING THAT I DID NOT HAVE THE BLEED SELECTOR TO A MAX POS. THE FLT PROGRESSED TO SWF WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT. MY DUTY DAY BEGAN AT XA00 WITH A DEADHEAD TO ORF. BY THE TIME THE CABIN PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON, I WAS PUSHING A 12 HR DUTY DAY, LOGGED NEARLY 7 HRS OF FLT TIME AND 6 LEGS.
