Narrative:

Dc-10 departed ord on runway 22L. Approximately 2 mins later B727 departed same runway. Eastbound turn was uneventful until approximately 8000 ft MSL over lake michigan. 727 controls were very sloppy. Asked departure about distance dc-10 was in front (TCASII did not display this aircraft). Dc-10 was 2000 ft above, 8 mi ahead. Held 250 KIAS through 15000 ft MSL. Controls were not as crisp as usual. Stayed outside turn to gij. Engaged autoplt out of 20000 ft MSL. Turned over gij to 089 degree radial, dc-10 was 20 NM ahead and 2000 ft above. Approximately 23000 ft wings rocked several times and modest shudder of airframe. Airspeed decayed 20-25 KTS. Eased nose over and offset the airway approximately 1/2 DOT to upwind side. Flight continued without further incident.
