Narrative:

For 2 days prior to the fri of july I had an intermittent shudder when landing. On the fri I decided to try a short flight to see if I could determine if I had a problem and to give the mechanics some direction where to check. After trying a couple of accelerations/decelerations the aircraft began shaking. I decided to land at abbeville airport only 2 mi away. The vibration/shaking continued to increase. By mid final it was so bad that I felt I was going to lose control of the aircraft. I rolled the throttle off hoping it would decrease the shaking. It got a little better but not much. Upon landing I felt the aircraft spring back up a little but not much. It didn't leave the ground and then the main rotor cut off the tail rotor gearbox.
