Narrative:

Flight departed gate at AM01. While taxiing for takeoff, ground informed us of departure delays and directed us to taxi into kilo ramp behind 1 air carrier and ahead of another. While maneuvering to leave room for the aircraft behind in a very tight space, left wingtip contacted a temporary light pole. Returned to gate for inspection and sign-off. Damage was 4 inches long, 1.5 inches high, and .25 inches deep. I should not have accepted instructions to taxi into the ramp area -- insufficient room to get 3 aircraft in there. Supplemental information from acn 275403: there was a light pole that was obviously going to be close to our left wing as we made a 180 degree right turn into our final parking spot. Captain and I commented that it was tight quarters, but it didn't look impossible. After the light pole was out of sight on our left, we both felt a bump or shudder. We stopped immediately. We determined that we had probably run over a construction-related hole. A flight attendant informed us a passenger said our wingtip hit the pole. We returned to the gate to have it inspected then we taxied back out and continued the flight.

Title: AN ACR MD-80 HIT A TEMPORARY LIGHT POLE WITH ITS WINGTIP.

Narrative: FLT DEPARTED GATE AT AM01. WHILE TAXIING FOR TKOF, GND INFORMED US OF DEP DELAYS AND DIRECTED US TO TAXI INTO KILO RAMP BEHIND 1 ACR AND AHEAD OF ANOTHER. WHILE MANEUVERING TO LEAVE ROOM FOR THE ACFT BEHIND IN A VERY TIGHT SPACE, L WINGTIP CONTACTED A TEMPORARY LIGHT POLE. RETURNED TO GATE FOR INSPECTION AND SIGN-OFF. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 275403: THERE WAS A LIGHT POLE THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE CLOSE TO OUR L WING AS WE MADE A 180 DEG R TURN INTO OUR FINAL PARKING SPOT. CAPT AND I COMMENTED THAT IT WAS TIGHT QUARTERS, BUT IT DIDN'T LOOK IMPOSSIBLE. AFTER THE LIGHT POLE WAS OUT OF SIGHT ON OUR L, WE BOTH FELT A BUMP OR SHUDDER. WE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. WE DETERMINED THAT WE HAD PROBABLY RUN OVER A CONSTRUCTION-RELATED HOLE. A FLT ATTENDANT INFORMED US A PAX SAID OUR WINGTIP HIT THE POLE. WE RETURNED TO THE GATE TO HAVE IT INSPECTED THEN WE TAXIED BACK OUT AND CONTINUED THE FLT.
